Pacquiao vs Mosley

Manny Pacquiao fans drove to the MGM Grand Arena to see their boxing hero for the weigh in together with his friendly foe Shane Mosley. The 18,000 fans saw the sculpted body of Pacquiao who weighted just 145 lbs, 2 lbs below Mosley who weighted at the welterweight limit of 147 lbs.

Coach Freddie Roach assessed his ward after going through an eight-week long training. He said that that training was the best ever and he doesn’t see a reason why Manny cannot win every single round of the fight. He also expects to see a knockout but did not predict on which round it will come.

Mosley will be facing a difficult task at the age of 39. He came from a devastating loss against Floyd Mayweather Jr. and a draw against Sergio Mora last year. Now he has to defeat the world’s best fighter. It should be noted however that Shane Mosley looks fitter this time than when he faced Floyd Mayweather.

Mosley’s plan to win this mega fight against Manny Pacquiao is to throw a lot of his signature punches and make regular use of jabs and uppercuts like what he did years back when he toyed with smaller opponents. But of course this is easier said than done.

Summer Getaway

Why not talk about a summer getaway this time.

I bet we need to soak up the sun before we dip our brains to schooling again. If you imagine yourself in your best summer get-up, looking to the vast horizon... finding yourself walking onto the fine white sand, letting it slip through your toes... the blue waves greeting you with gentle splashes on the shore... See ladies drinking pina coladas as they get a sun-kissed tan...

L'emme interrupt your thoughts now.
You wanna be at the beach.

So here's a list of some of the most revitalizing beach resorts in the Philippines:

Up North: Evangeline Beach Resort - Pagudpod Ilocos Norte

Nestled amidst a glorious expanse of white sand beach, towering tropical trees, and the impeccable allure of the ocean breeze, Evangeline Beach Resort sits as every vacationer’s dream getaway. Our topnotch Ilocano service coupled with the grandeur of the Pagudpud shores makes a night or two at our resort become more than another beach vacation—we let you experience paradise like no other.

Donna says: You'd probably take on a 10-hour ride from Manila just to get to this paradise, but I am sure all the butt cramps are worth it with the breathtaking sights at Evageline's Beach Resort. Best for barkadas coz I guess mom or dad would complain much about the long drive.

Down South: Aquatico Beach Resort - Laiya, San Juan Batangas

Acuatico is a tourist’s haven. A traveler’s and a vacationist’s ideal refuge. Soak your moments of leisure under its magic charms and exotic beauty. Its balmy tropical setting and the deep-blue crystalline waters of the sea. Enjoy the majestic Mt. Daguldul whose lush virgin forest remains undefiled by human exploitation. And because of Laiya’s unique climate, characterized by less rainfall, Acuatico is an excellent getaway for beach and nature lovers, even for those who simply want to spend a brief moment of relaxation, anytime of the year.

Donna says: You gotta bring your parents with you *grin.* This is a premier resort in Laiya and with that, the rates are pretty pricey. The amenities and services are excellent and the infinity pool is breathtaking. The place is just a 3 hr. ride from Manila so you'd probably get there in high-spirits. Comfort and Elegance takes Aquatico above from the rest.

Unique Adventure: Manjuyod Sand bar Bais City

This pristine 7 kilometer stretch of premium white sand can be accessed via a short 15 minute boat ride from Capiñahan Wharf in the South Bais Bay, Bais City Negros Oriental. It is basically an island towards the North Bais Bay in the Tañon Strait that emerges only during low tides. On the island you can find native wooden houses built on stilts – and which, during high tide, appears to be floating on the water. These cottages could be rented for overnight stays and can be booked at the Bais City Tourism Office.

Donna says: I went here last year and I can say that the experience was spectacular. It's like a plateau in the middle of the sea. We rented a boat and got there at around 9 am. It was low tide then so the pristine white sandbar showed up. The sand stretched out like a mini-island and it looked so amazing. Then when high tide came, the water rose up a bit more and the water reached up to my neck! The sandbar disappeared as the water levels gone high. Be here for some adventure. It would be unforgettable.

You may take your pick or search for more places in the web. Better read the reviews about a chosen beach before you get there. See if your budget would suffice. Many resorts have terms and conditions too so better check them out. For overnight or longer stays, better book for a room/s weeks or a month ahead, especially during peak season so your plans would sail smoothly. Make sure you have your car checked. A road map or a travel guide will come in handy too.

There you have it!
Make that trip awesome.

Sparkling Solemate

A walk in the clouds and into the night.
All the stars were shining bright.
I wish upon every twinkling sight
Stardust glittered 'till the morning light.

I am no poet, but I guess my love for these sandals helped me go through every meter and rhyme. Well, I just want to share about my sparkling solemate: Stardust.

Stardust is my second pair of Sanuk sandals. The first one I got was June Bug, given by my boyfriend as a Christmas present. I particularly requested for a pair of Stardust but we weren't able to get a size for me. We were told that the style was already outdated and very very few stocks were left in their shelves, mostly in size 9 (for a bigfoot maybe.)

So how come I already own a Stardust? It just so happens that new stocks were available because there was a huge demand for it. Apparently, I am one of those lucky girls who got a perfect pair! And believe me, it all happened by chance!

Lowel (my boyfriend) and I were strolling in Trinoma as we search for the perfect brown shoes for him. As we walk, we came across a Sanuk booth and took a peek. I scanned at the women's section and suddenly, my eyes gleamed with thrill and delight. "Hey it's Stardust! And there's size sevennnn!" With no hesitation, I tried a pair on and it feels really comfortable; like my feet's being cradled by squishy clouds with specks of glitter covering 'em. What a moment!

I think every person should have at least one pair of Sanuk. A pair that suits your personality coz of course, it nice to wear shoes that speak about yourself. I bet it boosts confidence too. You'd also get your money's worth coz they are ever reliable walking buddies. You wouldn't get blisters and it has some sort of a breathable feel. Isn't that great or what?

Our feet deserve solemates. They bring us around and without 'em, we could never ever walk tall.

i-Campus: Ateneo's Apple Store

I've been hearing about this so called Apple store in Ateneo and I didn't pay much interest. Till I came to Loyola Schools a few days ago, I got curious and finally took notice.

It's a small booth near the entrance of the LS Bookstore at the MVP building. It's not that fancy, nor it took much space. But what the community must be fancying about are the gadgets sold in discounted prices.

As I stand in front of the displays... I feel like a dazzled kid peering over techie toys up for grabs! i-Campus's got everything Apple---ipods, ipads, accessories and of course, the Mac notebooks.

The store was launched due to Fr. Javellana S.J. and William Mallari's, (LS bookstore director) efforts in serving the community better. They noticed that many students are fans of the ipod / itouch and macbook. Apart from that, Apple has begun providing discounts to educational institutions (particularly in the US.)

“With the opening of iCampus-Ateneo, students can be exposed to the latest in Mac technology and could learn that Mac is the perfect digital learning tool for education. With this, we simply share with Apple Education’s mission in providing a more digital learning environment for students that will support the way they live and want to learn,”
- Patrick Yeung, Senco Link Technologies Managing Director.

According to my sources, only students, staff, faculty, and alumni of Ateneo could avail of the discounts. You must present and Ateneo I.D. and TADAH! you just got a new Apple baby! Aside from that, rumor has it that there would be i-Campus booths on other schools too like Assumption and Xavier School... So don't fret if you're from another school cause an i-Campus must come out soon near you!

Here are the estimated prices:

iPod Nano 8 GB – 7,000 Php (from 9,500 Php)
iPod Nano 16GB – 9,825 Php (from 12,000 Php)
iPod Touch 8 GB – 11,000 Php
                   16GB- 14,000 Php
                   32GB- 19,000 Php
MacBook White (2.0GHz dual core 120 GB HDD) @ 51,000Php (from 56,000Php)
Macbook (2.0 GHz 160GB HDD 2 GB ram) @ 65.000 Php (from 72,000Php)
MacBook (2.4 GHz 250GB HDD 2 GB ram) @ 78,000 Php (from 89,000 Php)

The i-Campus Ateneo is located at the Loyola School Bookstore located at the ground floor of the Manuel V. Pangilinan Student Leadership Center at the Ateneo De Manila University Loyola Heights Campus.

To Buy or Not to Buy

Since I'm gonna go to graduate school, I started thinking about the things I need.

1. bag -check-
2. everyday budget -check-
3. handy laptop - ...

So I'm stuck on the third. Actually I have one; a compaq presario V6000.
Mine's running Ubuntu OS. The original Vista OS got wiped out along with the rest of my files because the hard drive crashed.
I'm generally happy with my lappie because it has all the essentials. It has office programs, firefox, video editing programs etc. The wide screen display is a beauty too, and I really love watching movies here.
But the only thing that makes me think of getting a new one is portability. My compaq's a heavyweight. It weighs around 3 kgs so I hardly bring it around. I keep it in a bulky laptop bag and stuff the charger and mouse along so, its quite a huge package. I also think I need a lappie that has...
  • long battery life
  • ease of typing
  • high quality display
  • standard screen size (doesn't make me squint)
I have a tendency to mull over things when it comes to high-purchases. A gadget such as a laptop might cost a fortune. I did some research in the web and my options are:

1. Asus net book
2. Vaio M
3. Mac

Sorry not a net book cause I can't stand working on a small screen. Vaio M's cute but it's pricey, has small screen size, and some say it's not that durable. The last option, the Macbook, appears to be the best laptop in town. It has complete features, long lasting battery life, handy, chic, and to top it all, it's very expensive! (but worth it i suppose)

I have a tight budget because I'm really serious about saving up. I feel like buying it but I just can't. I'm afraid I'm gonna lose my hard earned money... I bloody worked hard for it. Oh I'm so torn.

How 'bout you? What do you think?

School IS cool!

I teach 24/7. I live away from home and stay in a dormitory near the school I teach in. I wake up really and early and go to work even with an empty stomach, otherwise, I'll be late! I take care of a bunch of kids, face everyday kiddie fights, answers queries from parents, and just do endless tasks.

Good thing I could breathe easy now. The kids are free (so are their parents), and my tasks? They're all finished! School stress ends as vacation begins!

So how do I spend my vacation? Well I've been a bum. Yes an official-bumass-lounging-about-anywhere kind of thing. I enjoy reading books, surfing the net, taking long naps, and nibble snacks. I think I'm loving vacation more that Christmas!

I've been unproductive for about 3 weeks now... and surprisingly, am not really enjoying it. Odd as it may seem, being out of the work atmosphere kinda keeps me afloat. Like i dunno where I'm heading to. Upon clearing all the clutter, now I'm facing this huge space and I dunno what to do next.

Bum-ass me is not really ME!

So... I decided to plan out my free time. Days ago, I went to the university to enroll for graduate studies. I went through the process for 2 painstaking days. For the record, I enroll pretty quick and easy in my old school. This time, the steps were quite lengthy due to a couple of concerns. I shifted to another course (from Chem. to Educ.) and I reinstated my status because I took an LOA. In a nutshell, it was pretty hard but I was able to fix everything. Tedious but worth it.

Since i work in the academe, I had a study grant to aid my schooling. In other words, I am a scholar. Sounds cool but its gonna be challenging. Oh tough love.
I'm gonna take 6 units this summer. My 1st summer class will start next week, while the other one's gonna be on the last week of April.
Dang. I'm really looking forward to 'em.
